CIMC Sanctum Supplies Bulk Liquid Argon Storage Tanks to Qujing, the World Capital of Photovoltaics

In recent years, global carbon reduction efforts under the carbon neutrality agenda have grown increasingly stringent, and the shift from traditional to new energy sources has become an irreversible trend. As a leading renewable energy source for achieving carbon neutrality, photovoltaics boasts exceptional growth potential and competitive advantages. Seizing this opportunity, Qujing in Yunnan Province is collaborating with industry-leading enterprises to promote the large-scale, cluster-based development of the silicon photovoltaic industry, jointly building Qujing into a global “Photovoltaic Capital.”

CIMC Sanctum has recently delivered a large batch of 150 m³ liquid argon storage tanks for the Nanhaizi Industrial Zone in the Qujing Economic and Technological Development Zone. The first batch of these tanks has already arrived on site for installation and commissioning, and the project is now under intensive yet well-organized construction. With a planned investment of approximately RMB 5.8 billion and covering an area of over 700 mu, the project is designed to achieve an annual production capacity of 20 GW of monocrystalline ingot pulling and wafer slicing, with a daily liquid argon consumption of 360 tonnes. Upon completion and commissioning, the project will serve as a demonstration base for the photovoltaic industry.

According to available information, liquid argon is stored in a double-walled liquid-argon storage tank with a vacuum interlayer. During the Czochralski pulling process for growing single-crystal silicon, liquid argon serves as a protective gas that surrounds the liquid surfaces of both single-crystal and polycrystalline silicon, preventing oxidation of these materials.
