The Xinjiang Shaya County Integrated Natural Gas Utilization and Safety Storage Peak-Shaving Project Achieves Successful First Startup! The project’s core equipment—a 10,000-cubic-meter LNG full-containment tank—is constructed by CIMC Sunda.

Located in the Circular Economy Industrial Park of Shaya County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang, this project involves an investment of RMB 357 million and is designed to produce 1 million cubic meters of LNG per day. It is currently the largest LNG production facility in the Shaya area, capable of meeting 5% of the gas demand in Shaya County and neighboring counties and cities, as well as providing three days’ worth of emergency natural gas storage for the local government. The project plays a vital role in alleviating winter gas supply shortages, ensuring reliable energy supply, and supporting local economic and social development.

The 10,000-cubic-meter LNG double-metal full-containment tank, designed and constructed by CIMC Sanctum, is the core equipment of this project and can store the equivalent of 6 million cubic meters of gaseous natural gas in a single operation. The LNG storage tank consists primarily of a secondary containment vessel, a primary containment vessel, an insulation system, a piping system, a thermal-bridge protection system, a fire-suppression system, and safety devices. The primary containment vessel has a diameter of 25 meters and is used for storing LNG. Under normal operating conditions, the secondary containment vessel holds LNG boil-off gas and cryogenic insulation materials; under leakage conditions, it must be capable of containing all liquid and boil-off gas, offering advantages such as resistance to low temperatures and prevention of cryogenic liquid leakage.

The project construction spanned a frigid winter with temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius and a scorching summer that turned the ground to molten rock. From material supply and in-plant prefabrication, fabrication and transportation, to on-site installation, welding, and commissioning, the project team pooled their wisdom and efforts, overcame numerous challenges, and steadily advanced the project until pre-cooling was completed and liquid output commenced.

As a leading enterprise in China’s cryogenic equipment and engineering applications sector, CIMC Sanctum has mastered the core technologies for both the overall and local structural design of full-containment tanks, with its product quality widely recognized by the market. CIMC Sanctum will steadfastly uphold the development philosophy of “promoting environmental protection and harmonious development,” pursue innovation, continuously take on new challenges, and leverage Sanctum’s intelligent manufacturing to contribute to carbon neutrality.
