Technological Breakthrough in “Chip-Free” Technology: CIMC Sanctum Commences Construction on China’s First Civilian Liquid Hydrogen Tank Truck
07 Mar,2023
Recently, CIMC Sanctum Cryogenic Equipment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “CIMC Sanctum”) was approved by the Mobile Pressure Vessel Subtechnical Committee of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Boilers and Pressure Vessels. The nation's first The conformity review of the enterprise standard for “Mobile Vacuum-Insulated Liquid Hydrogen Pressure Vessels” and the product design scheme for liquid hydrogen tank trucks demonstrates CIMC Sanctum’s strong capabilities in the liquid hydrogen sector.

On the morning of March 2, The groundbreaking ceremony for China’s first domestically produced civilian liquid-hydrogen tanker, organized by CIMC Sanctum, was held at the Sanctum plant. Attending the event were Mr. Luo Xiaozhong, General Manager of the Liquid Hydrogen Business Unit; Mr. Cheng Xiongbo, Deputy General Manager of the Cryogenic Company; Mr. Cai Hao, Assistant to the General Manager; and members of the project team. Special guests included Deputy Director Zhang Weibin, Director Xu Meng, Director Zou Nikang, and Deputy Director Wu Xiaochun from the Zhangjiagang Branch of the Jiangsu Provincial Special Inspection Institute; Researcher Xie Xiujuan from the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Associate Researcher Qiu Xiaolin from the Beijing Special Engineering Design Research Institute, all of whom jointly witnessed this historic moment.

Liquid hydrogen storage and transportation technology is one of the core enabling technologies underpinning national strategic competition worldwide, classified as a “chokepoint” strategic emerging industry technology. Currently, China lacks civilian liquid hydrogen storage and transportation equipment, making this a long-standing, pressing challenge that the country has been eager to address. The development of such equipment represents a milestone achievement with profound social value.
Looking ahead, CIMC Sanctum will leverage its industry-leading R&D platform and world-class R&D team to conduct in-depth, ongoing research on liquid hydrogen products, thereby further advancing the commercialization of the entire civil-sector liquid hydrogen value chain. At the same time, the company will integrate internal and external resources across the liquid hydrogen value chain to jointly develop a broader range of hydrogen-energy applications, thus contributing to the achievement of China’s dual-carbon goals.
