Let’s discuss several common types of LNG fueling station equipment with an LNG fueling station equipment manufacturer.
An LNG refueling station is a facility that supplies liquefied natural gas (LNG). First, LNG CNG Station Equipment Manufacturer From a typological perspective, LNG refueling stations are broadly categorized into two main types: stationary stations (including LNG filling stations and L-CNG filling stations) and skid-mounted stations. A typical all-LNG filling station is equipped with an LNG storage tank, a pump skid with submersible pumps, tank pressurization and vaporization units, truck-unloading vaporizers, EAG heaters, and fuel dispensers, among other components. Next, we will focus on several of the more common types of LNG filling stations.
Introduction to Several Common Types of LNG Filling Stations
1. Stationary LNG Filling Stations Stationary LNG filling stations install all on-site equipment at ground level, with large-capacity LNG storage tanks (typically 50 cubic meters or more) and a footprint of about 5 to 7 mu. These stations are primarily designed for high-volume fueling, serving heavy-duty trucks and intercity buses in urban areas where vehicle throughput is substantial. They can be equipped with multiple dispensers to accommodate a large number of LNG passenger vehicles, and the total capital cost—including equipment and land—ranges from approximately RMB 8 million to RMB 10 million. Due to the large capital investment required for stationary station design and other factors, such stations are generally only considered when there is a demand from 40 or more heavy-duty trucks.
2. Skid-mounted LNG fueling stations integrate storage tanks, various control systems, and fueling dispensers onto a single fixed skid, enabling the entire facility to be easily relocated. According to LNG fueling station equipment manufacturers, skid-mounted stations only require an LNG tanker truck to deliver LNG as the fuel supply; the overall footprint is small, with total tank capacity typically not exceeding 50 cubic meters. These stations occupy minimal land, feature a simpler process flow, shorter construction periods, and lower capital investment compared with stationary stations, making them highly suitable for vehicle-based delivery. Moreover, their location can be adjusted at any time in response to market demand, which makes them particularly well-suited for urban areas undergoing planning and development. In practical applications, skid-mounted stations are generally chosen when site space is limited or when the number of vehicles served is between 10 and 40. For ground-mounted installations, the entire skid is simply anchored to the ground in a straightforward, fixed configuration. Mobile skid-mounted stations, on the other hand, involve mounting the entire skid assembly on a mobile chassis, offering high maneuverability and the ability to relocate quickly to areas with immediate fueling needs. However, due to their relatively small storage capacity, they are currently used mainly for emergency situations. At present, this type of fueling solution is primarily deployed in regions where LNG demand is low or where conditions do not yet permit the construction of a permanent station—for example, in areas with fewer than 10 vehicles, where a mobile LNG refueling truck can readily meet the fueling requirements. In terms of equipment costs alone, a skid-mounted LNG fueling station typically costs around RMB 2 million.
3. L-CNG filling stations are dual-purpose facilities capable of dispensing both LNG and CNG, offering strong overall performance. According to LNG filling station equipment manufacturers, an L-CNG station first pressurizes LNG using a high-pressure liquid pump to convert it into gas, which is then used to fuel CNG vehicles; alternatively, a low-pressure liquid pump can be employed to directly fuel LNG vehicles. Such stations are essentially LNG filling stations augmented with high-pressure vaporizers, high-pressure liquid pumps, and other auxiliary equipment. Compared with CNG filling stations of the same capacity, L-CNG stations entail lower capital investment and operating costs.
