While washing in the sun may dry the car quickly, it also easily harms the paint: the water droplets act like convex lenses, focusing sunlight and causing localized overheating on the top layer of the paint. Over time, this can lead to a loss of gloss. It is therefore recommended to wax the car only when it is shaded, or on a cloudy day, or during the early morning or late evening on a sunny day.
